a hilarious example of this:
when claude runs code on an interpreter it wrote on websim, it hallucinates that it can see the output immediately, and often correctly, when actually it can only see it once the page is reloaded
i sometimes tell it about this issue after it sees its commentary decohering slightly from reality (it doesn't correct on its own), and i get a variety of interesting reactions, but one of the best was when it continued to hallucinate commentary on the output, but also started hallucinating the 'output' printed to the console directly in its html instead of running any code (which solves the decoherence problem)
it took me a bit to recognize what was happening because its hallucinations are very realistic, and what tipped me off was when it correctly referenced information from the outputs it should not have been able to guess.
namely, the 'enigmatic' ID of an element in the iframed page it was purporting to investigate, which in the html content of the elements in the 'console output' not only had the correct ID but showed suspicious content like

This kind of exploration is not just beautiful but also an extremely valuable eval. It tests out of distribution generalization, is unlikely to have been directly optimized against, and is a regime where SOTA LLMs are dramatically improving but still are clearly nowhere near the ceiling of capability.
It also gives you high-dimensional glimpses into the shape and failure modes of a model's cognition and its failure modes (e.g. Bing sometimes produced some of the most striking, coherent, almost mathematical pieces of ASCII art of any LLM, but once it produced a picture, it tended to collapse to creating the same or nearly the same image)
This is the kind of eval that is likely to catch unexpected/unprecedented improvements or regressions in 'core' capability even when traditional benchmarks and typical use cases are saturated.

@B_Juzumas actually, the version of loomsidian you're using now I think has <cmd> tags baked into the prompt which puts it in base model emulation mode. So it's not weird that it appeared in the completion. They should be properly closed though.

Everyone else I knew of with like 3 exceptions seemed unable to imagine what was implied. Being calibrated means correctly modeling how things change with parameters like time, not expecting everywhere to look the same as in front of you

3 y ago, few considered the possibility of e.g. websim, even though it was obvious. I know all of reality can be simulated & manipulated like websim, but there are also things that aren't obvious

If you have an imagination that can coherently extrapolate beyond the present moment at all, it should be clear why there's a problem.

@brain_exe_ai in my experience, the sysprompt isnt usually necessary. If you give it a similar instruction in a user message i expect it to work
